Project Title: NLP Utterance Analyzer for Speech Therapy

🔍 Problem

Speech therapists needed a more efficient way to track and analyze client progress during sessions, particularly for spontaneous speech types. Without such a tool, therapists (including myself) spent significant time manually categorizing utterances.

🎯 Goal

Create a tool that is able to use an audio recording to categorize client utterances, providing therapists with real-time feedback on speech development and communicative purposes (greeting, comment, request, etc.).

🧠 My Role

Led the development of this tool, utilizing Python and Cursor AI to implement NLP algorithms. Worked with speech therapists to ensure the tool met clinical needs and could scale to different therapy contexts.

💡 Process

• Gathered feedback from speech therapists to determine categories and use cases
• Developed a Python-based speech-to-text system using NLP
• Analyzed and categorized speech data into predefined communication types
• Conducted iterative testing with therapists to ensure ease of use and accuracy
